Make sure your Chevy is ready for the city at El Dorado Chevrolet

We all know that driving in the city has its challenges, as the highways can get clogged, parking can be a chore, and there are countless red lights you have to deal with. That’s not even mentioning the never-ending construction, which makes things even more frustrating. But before you start road raging, know that there are a few things you can do to make your urban driving experience as good as it can be. From choosing the right vehicle to the things you can do on the road, our team here at El Dorado Chevrolet is here to provide you with some tips that you can use the next time you are in Dallas. Check them out down below!

Get the Best Chevy

If you are trying to find some street parking in the city and are going to be late because you are having a hard time parking your vehicle, there might be a problem with the size of your vehicle. Even paid parking lots seem only to have spaces for smaller or compact cars, which can make things even more difficult. So trust us, do yourself a favor, and get a smaller vehicle like the Blazer or the Bolt, allowing you to park in these tight parking spaces without too much hassle. Not only will you be able to park your car easily, but you will also prevent dings, dents, and scrapes. Luckily, here at El Dorado Chevrolet, we have plenty of smaller Chevy SUVs available to see and test drive. Many of them also have a ton of safety features, so you won’t have to worry about hitting another vehicle while parking.

Understand MPG

Drivers who drive in the city tend to have lower MPG, so when you are thinking about buying a vehicle, you’re going to want to balance the high cost of fuel with the lower mpg numbers so you will have an idea of how many trips you will have to make to the gas station. You might even consider getting an electric vehicle like the Bolt EUV, which means you will never have to go to the gas station. Vehicles with hybrid engines run solely on electric power at low speeds, which is another thing you might want to keep in mind. They will always get top marks in stop-and-go traffic.

Get a Chevy with Parking Assist

While no one like the sound of a big truck backing up, the quick electric chime of your Chevy’s parking assist system will quickly get you in and out of parking spaces efficiently, this system will also prevent you from running into another vehicle or object that is behind you. It should be fairly easy to get a Chevy with rear parking sensors; the higher versions of most Chevy vehicles come with a rear-mounted camera which will also project an image of what’s behind you right on your navigation system, which is sure to make things a little bit easier. No matter what technology you want your Chevy to have, you’ll find what you are looking for here at El Dorado Chevy!

Think About Mileage

When you are behind the wheel of your Chevy, never speed up to slow down. If you’re pressing hard on your accelerator when the light turns green, then slamming on your brakes one street down, you’re harming your Chevy and the gas mileage. Rather than stepping down on the gas, lightly tap your accelerator and coast when you can. When finding yourself in bumper-to-bumper traffic, you can improve your fuel economy by shifting into neutral instead of constantly riding your brake. Another good rule of thumb is to never ride around Dallas or any other city with less than a quarter tank of glass. Gas stations can be both expensive and difficult to find.

Use Caution

Driving in the city can be very difficult if you’re not used to it, and city residents typically know what streets to avoid while you might not. It can be beneficial to check the traffic ahead of time to see if there is some kind of construction or any other obstacles in your path as you travel. For example, if you find that a two-lane interstate is becoming an eight-lane expressway as you get closer to the city, veer hard into one of the right lanes. These lanes will let you slow down and read some familiar signs. If your exit is sneaking up on you and you can’t get into the right lane, don’t cross over several lanes of traffic to get to your exit. Instead, get off at the next exit and work your way back as needed. If you find that your exit is a far way off, check your GPS. It’s better to plan than drive recklessly.
