Celebrating 85 Years of the Chevrolet Suburban
The Chevrolet Suburban is a fan favorite because of its luxurious appearance, spacious interior, and family-friendly features. Thanks to the Suburban’s loyal following, the full-size SUV recently celebrated its 85th birthday. Keep reading to learn more about the Suburban’s history.
A True Pioneer
When the Chevy Suburban reached its 85th birthday back in November 2019, it became the first vehicle in history to do so. No other vehicle has been in production for as long as the Chevy Suburban’s impressive 85-year run, which makes the Suburban the auto industry’s longest-running nameplate.
The Suburban was introduced way back in 1935 as the Chevy Carryall. Though the name changed over time, the premise — a comfortable interior built for passengers upon the frame of a capable pickup — has remained the same. Believe it or not, a few other automakers have introduced a Suburban model, but only the Chevrolet Suburban made history.
The 2020 Chevy Suburban is the culmination of 85 years of continuous improvement in engineering, capability, and comfort. The current nine-seater model produces up to 383 lb-ft of torque and 355 horsepower with its V8 engine, which makes it capable of towing up to 8,300 pounds when properly equipped.
El Dorado Chevrolet has a variety of new and used Suburban models in stock today. Check out our lot to see for yourself why the full-size SUV has stood the test of time.
