Now that spring has arrived in McKinney, Texas, you can expect to encounter more rain showers during your commutes, which can potentially lead to dangerous situations. The next time you’re driving in the rain, be sure to follow these tips for driving safely.

Be Smart With Braking

If your car has an antilock braking system, you should be safe to hold down the brake pedal in an emergency. However, if your car doesn’t have this technology, you should instead pulse the brake pedal as you come to a complete stop.

Take It Slow

To help prevent your car from hydroplaning, it’s a good idea to drive slower than the speed limit when there’s water on the road. Be extra cautious when taking turns and always remember to keep plenty of distance between you and the vehicle ahead.

Turn on Your Headlights

Once it starts raining, make sure to turn on your headlights so you have enough visibility on the road. If you know it’s going to rain during your commute, take the time to inspect your headlights and taillights before hitting the road so you can ascertain that they’re working properly.

If you need any parts replacements or services before your vehicle is ready to drive in inclement weather, schedule a maintenance appointment at El Dorado Chevrolet in McKinney, Texas.
